Get a free Groq key
- Groq is a service that gives you free AI access
- Sign up at console.groq.com. Phone verification is all it takes.
- Click API Keys → Create API Key
- The key starts with gsk_ and appears only once. Copy it into the setup guide.
- Don't share your key with anyone
If you see a “model not allowed” error, open Settings → Limits → Model Permissions in the Groq console and allow openai/gpt-oss-20b.

Questions before you install
Is Clutio really free?
Yes, Clutio charges nothing. It uses Groq's free limit of 1,000 lookups a day, and no card is needed. You get a free Groq key once at the start.
Is my word list stored on a server?
No. Clutio has no server and no login. Your word list, study history, settings and key are stored only in this browser.
What gets sent to the AI?
When you look up a word, the word and its one sentence go to the AI service you chose. The page address and title are not sent. The service handles the text under its own policy.
How do I get an API key?
An API key is a secret string that tells an AI service it's you. For the free option, create one at console.groq.com. The steps are under “How to get started.”
How is it different from Google Translate?
A translator converts whole passages and a dictionary lists many meanings. Clutio puts this sentence's meaning first and saves the word with it.
Which languages does it support?
You can choose Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French or German. Menus, meanings and translations appear in that language. The text you read doesn't have to be English.
Where do I see my word list?
Click the extension icon. You can search your words, and export a CSV backup from Settings.
Does it work in browsers other than Chrome?
It works in Chrome-based browsers such as Edge, Brave and Opera. It doesn't work in Firefox or Safari yet.
